After discovering a love for clay at an early age, I went on to study Ceramics at degree level and have been working with ceramics ever since.
The inspiration for my current ‘Scrolls’ collection came from a visit to Jerusalem’s Wailing Wall where I was amazed by the thousands of prayers written on little pieces of paper stuffed between the bricks.
I use a combination of techniques to create my pieces. The vases are slip cast then individual scrolls are rolled and applied in different sizes for visual interest and to accommodate a variety of stem sizes. I use white earthenware clay which achieves a clean white finish allowing a crisp contrast to the bright colours on the insides of the scrolls. Each piece is fired 3 times achieving a top temperature of 1150ºC. My vases are glazed inside and out so they are able to hold water for fresh flowers.
