Jim Bassett

During more than thirty years of teaching and lecturing he has continued to exhibit and sell. Known for his lead glazed slipware: more than 100 commemorative plates have been commissioned and several for the permanent collection at Northampton Museum.

Current work sees a return to simple thrown vessels in oxidised stoneware and some raku. He has had a lifelong preoccupation with the bowl: the simplest and oldest vessel which rests in cupped hands and almost floats on the surface it is placed upon.

Birds have always featured as decorative motifs in his work as images in plates and handle knobs on pots. He also makes stylised garden birds.

Following his move to Scotland he remains an honorary lifetime member of the Guild.

Images of his work and working methods feature in:-
